I started this blog due to her, my dog I still miss and think about. As with children, I do not connect with all of them. A client I worked for recently has a dog. She is not exactly good looking, a mutt, a stray who wondered into his yard. He slowly coaxed her to stay on and now she is so devoted to him. She reminded me of Cassie, the same sharp intelligence. She knew everything going on in the house. As with Cassie, I love her and could not keep my hands off her. When she is in the room, I kept looking at her and a few times called her Cassie. She is however not like Cassie, she is very serious. Cassie smiled and can get very excited. This dog would not. She is too serious. One wonder where she was and where she had gone to.
One evening I decided to play with her, “why do you not smile?” I coaxed. “Come on, smile, smile for me.” I waved my hands in front of her trying to get her excited enough to smile. Instead, with opened mouth, she hit me first on one hand and in split second another and snarled at me. I backed away, a bit intimated. She reminded me one should be wary with dogs. However, I did not want that to spoil things. I went back to her and gently stroke her. Now we are good friends. She looks at me and I know she knows me.
