One morning, I was rounding a curve at the park on my morning walk when I understood how those Buddhist monks in Burma are able to love their enemies. They have moved beyond self.
Remove self and there is less sufferings. It is freeing. Because without self, we do not have to worry about what others think or say. Our actions rule by what is inside of us and not by others. Remove self and there is no need to defend self.
The latter made the most impression on me. It means I would not need to angry were someone to tread on my toes or defend myself when someone reacts negatively to me.
