Bea, my 80 year old friend called today. She is one interesting person. She told me, it is “self” that is most important. Self comes first. I told her in Christian teaching, God comes first, then neighbors and self comes last. She responded, she went through all that and it did not leave her happy till she pursue her own path. And it starts with self. It is all about self, serving self. In her brand of religious beliefs, she is part of God hence she is god and in serving herself, she serves God. Interesting concept.

I can understand self first – in the context, we cannot give what we do not own. Hence in self-possession, possessing ourselves through self- knowledge and self-governance, we are able to give of ourselves to others.
